To mark our year together, my boyfriend asked me for a couple’s photoshoot—captured by none other than me, the photographer writing to you now.

For those who don’t know, I’ve been photographing myself since my teenage years. It’s also how my journey with women’s photography began.

But I had never done a couple’s photoshoot before, so this was a unique challenge for me.

First, we discussed what to wear, since we each have our own distinct style.

I focused on finding the sweet spot where our styles meet and came to this conclusion: all black, turtlenecks, textured fabrics, and a more classic vibe.

In the end, I chose this outfit for our couple’s photography session, considering how it would represent us in the photos.

Beyond timelessness, I believe this final combination added sophistication and emphasized our expressions—something crucial when deciding what to wear for a portrait photoshoot.

As you can see, simple outfits, even those with little details, give more room for emotions, expressions, and gestures to shine.

We set a date for the session and headed to the studio. I dedicated an entire afternoon just for us.

First, I tested the lighting to make sure everything was perfectly set. Because when it comes to self-portraits (that’s how we call when the photographer is also the subject), controlling all the details in a studio setting is more challenging.

Only then we begin shooting—and that’s when the magic happened.

One of the most important aspects of a couple’s session is the harmony that will inevitably be reflected in the photographs.

And I believe that every single photo here perfectly captures how we feel about each other.

Needless to say, we both loved the results!

This photoshoot will forever hold a special place in our story.
