“Mari, turning 50 in September 2019 was a milestone for me, and I wanted to mark the occasion. I started thinking about a photoshoot but didn’t have the courage. I’m a Virgo—super shy and reserved.
I spent a whole year admiring your work from afar, liking countless posts on Instagram, and having so many conversations with Carol. Among all her explanations and encouragements, she always said, ‘just come.’
So, I booked my shoot for my 51st birthday. And now, I can’t believe it took me a year to finally experience that moment.
I must confess, I went to the studio with no expectations of anything close to what I’d seen on your Instagram. I arrived full of fear, anxiety, insecurity, shyness, embarrassment, sweating and shaking. I was battling my shyness and my certainty that I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. I was scared of the makeup, the hair, the outfits, and the poses.
These emotions lasted only until the first click, the first pose. You and Luiza surrounded me with so much care, kindness, and calm that my feelings completely transformed. That moment became enjoyable—it felt like playful fun among friends.
A sense of calm took over me, followed by confidence and joy. I started feeling capable of any pose. I began to see myself as a goddess (pardon my modesty, lol). I started feeling like one of the amazing women from your Instagram.
You have no idea how important this was for me. Unfortunately, we lose ourselves in beauty standards. But today, with the albums in my hands, I know I’m one of your “Wonderful.” At 51, with wavy hair, cellulite, love handles, and everything else, lol.
